Samp Women’s winless run continues against Fiorentina

Sampdoria Women’s struggles continued as they slipped to a 4-1 defeat to Fiorentina on Saturday.

Antonio Cincotta’s did most of the early probing but were unable to make the breakthrough. Miriam Longo did just that for the Viola on the half-hour mark, although there was a strong suspicion of offside. She added a second two minutes later and so the Blucerchiate found themselves 2-0 down at the interval.

The break revitalised Samp and they came back out intent on making a game of it. They got their reward 12 minutes after the restart when Rachel Cuschieri’s cross was headed in by Tecia Pettenuzzo. Minutes later Agnese Bonfantini denied an equaliser with a fine effort that came off the crossbar.

As fatigue began to set in, the Viola extended their lead through Pauline Hammarlund before Milica Mijatovic added a fourth to make the scoreline look like one-sided.

Cincotta’s girls will quickly pick themselves up as they travel to Inter for their Coppa Italia return leg on Wednesday.
