EURO 2020: Damsgaard pearler not enough. England in the final

A masterful free-kick goal by Mikkel Damsgaard was not enough to take Denmark through to the EURO 2020 final against Italy.

Our midfield starlet was named in the starting line-up for the semi-final and fired the Danes in front midway through the first half with a brilliant set-piece. However, England were level again ten minutes later when Simon Kjaer turned Bukayo Saka’s cross into his own net.

In extra time Harry Kane turned in the rebound after Kasper Schmeichel had saved his penalty to set up a Wembley date with the Azzurri.

It means there will be no dream final for Damsgaard, who played 67 minutes of the game, but he can be proud of his superb tournament, with two goals and an assist in five matches.
