Audero: “We kept trying till the end”
Emil Audero certainly played his part against Juventus, keeping Samp in the contest with a brilliant save to deny Cristiano Ronaldo then thwarting the Ballon d’Or winner on another occasion by forcing him wide. Sadly it wasn’t enough as the Bianconeri eventually find a second in stoppage time, but the former Juve shotstopper felt there were positives to be had.
“We kept trying for an equaliser till the end but just weren’t accurate enough,” the 24-year-old said after the game. “Perhaps we could have taken a few more risks.
“The final scoreline is probably less than we deserved because we abandoned our shape at the end. The good thing is we were really pushing to find a leveller. Let’s take the positives and move on.
“We did have a couple of decent chances. We responded well. Apart from their two goals, their best effort was a long-range shot from Ronaldo, which tells you how good we were defensively.
“We have Benevento next – a very tough game. We lost in the reverse fixture and they were better than us so I’m expecting it to be very difficult. We have to go into it with the right mindset.”
