Verre at a loss to explain second-half blackout
Valerio Verre scored an absolute peach of a goal on a night we all want to forget so understandably was not in the mood for reflecting on his personal feat.
“We’re angry, disappointed and sad,” the midfielder began in the aftermath of Sampdoria’s Coppa Italia defeat to Genoa.
“That’s how it went unfortunately and now must quickly turn the page. We’ll talk about this game again, about how we sometimes go from having the upper hand to inexplicably losing it. I don’t know what happens exactly but it mustn’t happen again.”
“We played really well in the first half. We were aggressive and on the front foot. I scored a nice goal but we ended up losing.
“We’ll try to get back on our game and get back to winning ways. We need to perform consistently and not just in fits and starts.”
