Colley: “We must stay focused and keep going”

After 54 Serie A games, Omar Colley finally scored his first league goal for Sampdoria with a fine header. Sadly for him and for Sampdoria, he can’t celebrate it properly because it was a game they ended up losing.

“I’m happy to have scored my first goal and yesterday was my wife’s birthday but I’m sad because we lost,” the 27-year-old said after the final whistle.

“We did better in the first half than in the second. We lost our focus and they attacked well.”

Samp now find themselves chasing in Serie A after losing their first two matches but the centre-back preached calm.

“There’s a long way to go. We must stay focused and push on. These things happen in football. We want to keep working so that we can do better in our coming games.

“Perhaps it was partly fatigue starting to set in but we need to maintain our concentration for the whole match, otherwise you end up losing. We mustn’t give up.”
