Yoshida delighted with Serie A experience at Samp

Maya Yoshida’s debut against Verona was followed by a lengthy lockdown but he hasn’t missed a single match since Serie A resumed, becoming a mainstay of Claudio Ranieri’s defence. Tjhe Japanese defender revealed his delight as he spoke in an interview – in Italian – after the final-day draw at Brescia.

“I’m very happy. It’s been a very difficult time for all of us but we’ve done really well and the result is we’ll be in Serie A next season – which is the most important thing for us.

“After seven years in England, it’s been a new experience but I’ve enjoyed it. I’d like to thank everyone: the coach, the staff, my team-mates and the fans.”

Yoshida, who turns 32 in August, also spoke about his future.

I don’t know anything yet but I have the possibility to remain for another year. However, for the club and for me it would be better to have a long contract. We’ll sit down and discuss it with the club and my agent during the holidays. We’ll see.”
