Ranieri lauds Samp character after comeback at Torino
Claudio Ranieri was full of praise for his team after they came from behind to clinch a 3-1 win at Torino.
“We knew this game was vital for us as we really needed the points,” the coach began. “It was tricky because Torino changed coach in the week and this is a ground that Samp have struggled at traditionally, so coming here and winning today is a great result. We played well.
“There were times when we needed to be more pragmatic. Our opponents scored with their first real chance – that seems to be happening to us at the moment. We responded well though, as we did on Monday against Napoli. This side has plenty of character.
The victory sees Sampdoria pull seven points clear of the drop zone awaiting results elsewhere, but
Ranieri warned the fight is anything but over.
“We’ve climbed a bit further up the table but we can’t afford to let up. We must keep looking over our shoulders.”
He also singled out Gaston Ramirez – the scorer of two brilliantly executed goals on the night – for a special mention.
“Gaston is one of those players capable of taking a team to the next level.”
