Ramirez calls on Samp to push on after “three huge points”
Gaston Ramirez put in a man-of-the-match display in Turin on Saturday, scoring a crucial brace – the first of his career – to help Sampdoria come from behind to win against Torino.
Speaking after the match, he said: “It’s more about these three huge points than my goals. We needed to put in a good display – we fought until the end and deservedly won. It was a perfect evening.
“[Manolo] Gabbiadini and I alternate on free-kicks – whoever has a good feeling, takes it. My only focus was on scoring goals – I haven’t thought about the fact it was my first brace, just about the group. Even those who aren’t playing always try to give their best.”
Echoing the sentiments of coach Claudio Ranieri, Ramirez underlined the need to push on: “We can’t give up – we’ll keep on training with the right mentality, looking ahead with confidence.
“The coach knows that I give my best as a trequartista but I’m prepared to help out wherever necessary. I’ll willingly play in any role.
“I’m grateful to the fans for every match – they always get behind us, particularly when things aren’t going well for us. We’re happy for them tonight.”
