Life as a No.1: Audero’s dream
In every 11 kids there’s one who’s different. One who chooses different rules, ways and actions. Emil Audero belongs to this category and has done ever since he started out at Cumiana Calcio.
The Sampdoria keeper opened up in a long interview with the club’s Official Media – requested specifically by the fans via a poll – about his early years: from his dream of playing in goal through to meeting and playing against his idol Gianluigi Buffon.
“I have two cultures living side by side: Indonesian and Italian,” says the Samp shotstopper, who was born in Lombok to an Indonesian father and Italian mother and represents the Azzurri at international level.
“The Indonesian side is a bit more relaxed so the Italian side comes to the fore when I need a bit more grit – and you need loads of grit to make it in Serie A.
“I know what I’m capable of but I also know that I haven’t achieved anything yet. I’ve enjoyed some success but I haven’t made it yet. I still have a lot to prove.
“I’m proud to be the goalkeeper of such an important club and I like being so close to the fans – I’ve learnt all the chants!”
