Jankto provides for the Czechs, Chabot’s Germany score five
There were two wins and a defeat for Samp’s international players in action on Tuesday.
The Czech Republic bounced back from Friday’s defeat in Kosovo with a 3-0 victory over Montenegro in Podgorica – with Jakub Jankto playing a key role.
The Samp midfielder laid on two goals in the space of of five second-half minutes (Soucek 54, Masopust 58) to put the visitors in control before Vladimir Darida put the game to bed deep into stoppage time.
It was a crucial win for Jaroslav Silhavy’s side as – coupled with Kosovo’s defeat to England – it means they reclaim second spot in Group A.
Sadly there was no joy for Omar Colley as Gambia’s hopes of qualifying for the 2022 World Cup were ended by Angola.
After losing the first leg 1-0 at home, Gambia needed a huge performance in Luanda but were unable to prevent Angola winning 2-1 (Geraldo 41, Ceesay 65, Abreu 68).
Elsewhere Julian Chabot‘s Germany U21s notched up a big win against Wales in qualifying for Euro 2021, to be held in Hungary and Slovenia.
Robin Hack bagged a hat-trick (19, 24, 29) with Johannes Eggestein (41) and Adrian Fein (50) also on the score sheet as the Germans ran out 5-1 winners, Mark Harris’s 48th-minute penalty coming as scant consolation for the hosts.
Chabot played the full 90 minutes.
