Euro qualifiers: Jankto on target against Israel, wins for Poland, Slovenia

Three wins, a goal and a defeat – that was the return for Sampdoria’s four international players from their UEFA Euro 2020 qualifying fixtures on Monday night.

Jakub Jankto starred in the Czech Republic’s 3-0 defeat of Montenegro in Olomouc. The Samp midfielder netted the opening goal in the 19th minute and was substituted off in the 74th. A Boris Kopitovic own goal (54) and a Patrik Schick penalty (80) completed the scoring as the Czechs moved onto six points in Group A.

Poland continued their purple patch with a 4-0 victory over Israel (Piatek 36, Lewandowski 57, Grosicki 59, Kadzior 84), a result which ensures they remain top of Group G on maximum points after four games. Bartosz Bereszynski played the full 90 minutes in Warsaw while Karol Linetty was an unused substitute.

Slovenia now have five points in the same group after putting five unanswered goals past Latvia in Riga (Crnigoj 24, 27, Ilicic 29, 44, Zajc 47). Vid Belec was not involved, however.

Sweden meanwhile were beaten 3-0 by Spain in Madrid (Ramos 64 penalty, Morata 84 penalty, Oyarzabal 87). Albin Ekdal captained the side and played 86 minutes. The Swedes are now joint second in Group F on 7 points.
