Giampaolo: “We must draw on all our energy reserves”

Marco Giampaolo says Sampdoria will need to muster everything they have and go beyond the fatigue if they are to beat Roma on Saturday night.

The Blucerchiati host the Giallorossi at the Stadio Ferraris at the end of a gruelling spell which has seen them beat AC Milan and lose to Torino – with vastly contrasting performances.

“The AC Milan match was our most intense of the season as we exceeded all our previous physiological parameters,” the coach began.

“On the other hand, Turin was our least intense performance of the campaign. Now we have another tough game and we’ll need to draw on all of our physical and mental reserves if we’re to face Roma the right way.”

The Giallorossi may have struggled for results lately but Giampaolo remains wary of Claudio Ranieri’s side.

“I saw them against Fiorentina and it was a tidy performance. They have top-quality players who can win games for you.

“It’s a very important game for us and we must play it with enthusiasm because we’re only three points behind them – that’s something we should be proud of.”
