Memorable derby debut for Audero: “This is the best derby of them all”

It’s a cruel hand that keepers are dealt, destined rarely to enjoy the limelight as much as goalscorers, but let it be known that this derby belonged to Emil Audero.

The Blucerchiati goalkeeper made a strung of stunning saves that helped his side to take a point from their fierce rivals.

“We started really well,” Audero began in his post-match interview, “and overall it was a good first half. They grew in courage and we dropped too deep, but in the second half we started playing again.

“Derbies are always competitive and in the end the result is fair. As for my best save, I’d say from the header, that was most difficult one.”

Not only was this Audero’s first experience of the Derby della Lanterna, it was his first time in a major local rivalry whatsoever.

“It was my first-ever derby and I think it’s the best of them all,” Samp’s No.1 continued. “It’s unique to experience from the inside. I’m pleased, even though a win would have given our confidence a boost.

“We did well to remain compact and united, trying to snuff out their attacks,” Emil concluded. “Now we have a nice game at home to Bologna. Tonight should have reminded us what we’re capable of.”
