Giampaolo delivers honest assessment: “An unacceptable result”
Marco Giampaolo was brutally honest in his post-match analysis of this afternoon’s damaging 4-1 defeat at home to Torino.
“No excuses, Torino were better than us in this game,” the head coach began. “These types of defeats are hard to stomach. With all due respect to our opposition, we can’t accept a 4-1 scoreline. We have to be in the game for the whole duration; this is where we went wrong.
“This result brings us back down to earth because a team with ambition shouldn’t accept it.”
The difference between the teams at the Marassi this afternoon was clear, as Torino’s physicality and stamina ensured they won away against Sampdoria in the top flight for the first time in 25 years.
“They’re strong physically and they stopped us from playing,” Giampaolo confirmed. “They were also helped by the referee, who let a lot of things go.”
Edgar Barreto’s nasty-looking injury came from such an incident early on in the first half.
“Yes, we didn’t have the rub of the green, with the injury and the goal. Now we need to analyse everything and start again.”
