Giampaolo praises Samp: “We read the key moments in the match well”

Marco Giampaolo dubbed his side’s 0-0 draw with Sassuolo on Monday night “a chess match” as he praised Samp’s maturity despite having to settle for a point at Marassi.

“I know the way Sassuolo play and the strategies they use,” he said. “They have the quality necessary to find space. We did well, though at times we lost a bit of shape. We created two or three chances within what was an even game.”

Giampaolo praised the way his team ensured they kept the door shut at the back while pushing for the win against the Neroverdi.

“We tried to get the three points but without losing our balance or putting ourselves in danger,” he said. “We conceded very few chances and that was down to our reading of the key moments.”

The Doria boss also looked ahead to next Sunday’s trip to San Siro to take on AC Milan.

“We’ve used a lot of physical and mental resources,” admitted Giampaolo. “We need to recover quickly because we’ll need to be at our best from a strategic perspective in the next game.”
