Audero: “Clean sheets are a motivation but not an obsession”
It might not have been a win, but Samp’s point against Sassuolo spoke volumes about the team’s maturity according to goalkeeper Emil Audero.
“Sassuolo are a well-organised side in good form,” said the Doria man after the game on Monday night. “It was a very tactical game, almost a chess match, and both teams had prepared well for it. There weren’t many clear-cut chances at all – there wasn’t anything to tip the balance one way or the other.”
The clean sheet confirms Samp’s status as the best defence in Serie A, with just four goals conceded all season.
“When you can’t score it’s vital that you don’t concede and are able to deal with the spells that come within a game,” said the keeper. “On a personal level I’m very happy. Keeping a clean sheet is a motivation but it can’t become an obsession. I’m working hard to help the team. The result is more important than individual performances.”
