Nations League: Italy defeat Poland after Biraghi’s late winner
Sampdoria players featured in both squads for Italy’s UEFA Nations League clash with Poland on Sunday evening. In Chorzow it was the Azzurri that secured a deserved win, despite having to wait until 92 minutes for Cristiano Biraghi’s decisive effort, sending Poland into League B.
For Bartosz Beresynski, who was on the field for the duration, and Karol Linetty, who started but was replaced at half-time, the defeat was a hammer blow. Instead it was Gianluca Caprari and Lorenzo Tonelli, who were in the Italy squad but did not feature in the match, that were able to celebrate.
The Samp duo will hope to be involved in the decisive Group 3 fixture, when Italy take on Portugal in Milan on Saturday 17 November.
