Linetty: “The best goals are when you win”

October is clearly a good month for Karol Linetty. Last season he scored all three of his goals in October and he decided to carry the tradition into 2018/19 at the first possible opportunity, volleying past SPAL keeper Gomis to level the scores this evening, on 1 October.

“It’s a good habit to have,” the Polish midfielder grinned after playing his part in the 2-1 win at the Ferraris. “But I only really care about scoring if we win. We needed three points tonight and my goal came at an important time, right after we’d conceded the opener.”

His 25th-minute strike, as stunning as it may have been, wouldn’t have been possible without the help of his team-mates.

“As soon as I saw [Gregoire] Defrel send over the cross I made my run. I saw where Fabio [Quagliarella] was going to knock it down and I managed to catch it almost perfectly.

“As I said though, winning was the main thing. Now we have a bit more time to rest up for the trip to Bergamo.”
