Euro Under-21 qualifiers: Andersen holds onto first spot, Kownacki continues to score
Joachim Andersen’s Denmark and Dawid Kownacki’s Poland continued their battle for top spot in Group 3 of the qualifiers for next year’s European Under-21 Championship.
The Scandinavians are in pole position for now, thanks to tonight’s 3-1 win away to Lithuania, who featured another Blucerchiati prospect in goal, Titas Krapikas.
Poland are in hot pursuit, however, following their victory against Finland in Helsinki. Kownacki scored the third and final goal, from the penalty spot, in a 3-1 win.
Elsewhere on the international stage, Ognjen Stijepovic played the full 90 in Montenegro’s 0-0 draw with Bulgaria at the Gradski Stadium in Niksic. The Balkan side are rooted to the bottom of Group 9 with no hope of qualifying for the final tournament being held in Italy and San Marino.
