Bereszynski gets the assist, Kownacki the goal: SamPoland ready for Russia
The final friendly before the World Cup begins had a distinctly Sampdoria flavour to it. Exactly one week from their opener in Russia 2018, Poland beat Lithuania 4-0, thanks to a hand from a couple of the Samp lads.
Lewandowsky’s brace opened the scoring for Poland at the PGE Narodowy Stadium in Warsaw, then Bartosz Bereszynski and Dawid Kownacki took centre-stage. The two Sampdoria players, both starting, combined for Poland’s third on the 71st: the fullback – playing on the left as per the orders of coach Adam Nawalka – provided the assist, and Kownacki made no mistake, hitting the target for his first senior international goal. The lads were cheered on by yet another Samp team-mate, as Karol Linetty watched from the bench. The scoring was rounded off by Blaszczykowski on the 83rd minute.
Next step for the squad will be Russia, as they head to Sochi, one of the host cities chosen by Russia for the World Cup. On Tuesday 19 July their group H debut will see them face Senegal in Moscow (kick-off 17:00 CEST).
