Road to World Cup: Torreira dreams of making history with Uruguay
Things have advanced quickly for Lucas Torreira, who is set for his first World Cup having played in Serie B around two years ago. He arrived at Pescara in the summer of 2016 and two seasons later is the leading light of Sampdoria’s midfield. His form at club level has earned him a call up to the Uruguay national team.
“I think that I got this call-up thanks to my team, Sampdoria, too,” he told Samp TV as part of the channel’s Road to World Cup series.
“I hope to have a great World Cup and help my team go as far as possible. We’re a small country but we’ve got a great footballing tradition. After the wins in 1930 and 1950, we want to make history yet again.”
