Zapata: “It’s even sweeter when you win it at the death”
As it happens, Duvan Zapata enjoyed his last-minute winner against Bologna on Wednesday night just as much as the thousands of delirious Blucerchiati fans packed into Marassi to see it did.
“It’s always nice to score, but when you get the winner in the last minute of a game it’s even better,” said the Colombian after the game. “We did everything we could to get the three points and we managed it in the end.”
There was a bit of good fortune involved in Zapata’s winner, as the striker revealed in his post-match interviews.
“I miskicked it twice, but the second one went in,” he said. “I’ve now scored 11 goals, which is my record tally. That’s the reason I came here – to improve. And I have!”
The result keeps Samp in the hunt for a place in next season’s Europa League, but Zapata is keen for Doria to take it one step at a time.
“There’s no point looking at the table now – we want to win every single game,” he said. “Every game from here on in could be the decisive one. We’re relaxed and we want to keep doing what we do to achieve our objective.”
