Quagliarella: “We apologise to the fans and the club”
Capitan Fabio Quagliarella made no excuses as he fronted up for the cameras after Sampdoria’s 5-0 defeat by Inter at Marassi on Sunday.
“We apologise to the fans and the club – losing is part of the game, but not like that,” said the veteran Italian. “Today’s result hurts. We need to reset and go again. We weren’t expecting a defeat like that – something went wrong and we need to figure out what that was. We have to respect the shirt we wear and play with dignity.”
Quagliarella had high praise for the Samp faithful, however, who stayed right behind the team despite the on-field performance.
“The fans were fantastic,” he said. “They never stopped singing – we’re indebted to them. We need to look at ourselves and figure out what we got wrong. We’re going to work hard over the next two weeks. It’s important that we stay focused and don’t think about the league table. The players that go off on international duty need to come back motivated.”
