Murru rues dropped points after sentimental return to Cagliari
Nicola Murru admitted it was an emotional experience for him to return to his boyhood club as a Sampdoria player, just a few months after making the move from Cagliari across the sea to Genoa.
The 22-year-old also expressed his regret at not being able to leave Sardinia with all three points after Doria squandered a 2-0 advantage.
“It wasn’t easy to play against so many friends but once the game kicked off I forgot about the past for 90 minutes,” he said.
“It’s a pity we dropped two points the way we did. We started off so well but then had a lull in the second half that let them come back in it and equalise.”
Samp will get straight back on the training ground on Sunday with a Coppa Italia last-16 encounter against Fiorentina to prepare for.
“We’ll watch the game back and take a look at the mistakes we made. We try to give 100% in every game. Now we want to get back to winning ways in the cup on Wednesday.”
