Giampaolo targets passage to next round of Coppa Italia

The Blucerchiati will be back in action against Pescara on Tuesday evening looking to book their place in the Coppa Italia last 16.

It may be a different competition to Serie A– and often considered a lesser prize – but Marco Giampaolo is adamant his side will go all out for the win following a disappointing defeat against Bologna at the weekend.

“Bologna is already in the past – win or lose, you always have to turn the page quickly,” the manager explained.

“We want to do well in the Coppa Italia and we’ll try to go as far as we’re able to and deserve to go.”

Pescara currently sit 13th in Serie B and visit Marassi on the back of a 4-0 reverse of their own at the hands of Spezia, but Giampaolo is not underestimating Zdenek Zeman’s side despite the difference in league places.

“Pescara are a team that always try to play good football. They don’t park the bus; they set out to score one more than the opposition,” he noted.

“We’ve had a good look at them and seen where their strengths lie. We’ll need to be at our very best mentally, physically and technically.”

To that end, Giampaolo has decided to field the best team possible at the Ferraris.

“Apart from a few injury problems and a few players who need a rest we’ll put out our strongest side because we want to win the match and go through to the next round.”
