Ramirez delighted after his goal sends Samp on the way to derby victory
“I wanted to leave a mark tonight, wearing this shirt,” said Gaston Ramirez after his delightful chip sent Samp on the way to derby victory over their cross-town rivals.
I think we can safely say it was job done for the Uruguayan, who won the hearts of Doria fans with his moment of brilliance.
“We’re really pleased. We played really well and winning the derby is just fantastic,” he said after the 2-0 win.
“In games like this, you play to win. Whether you play well or badly, the key is to get the result. That’s what we did today.”
With Fabio Quagliarella adding the second, this win brings the Blucerchiati’s tally for the season to 20. Their place in the table speaks for itself.
“We’re a very competitive team. Even between ourselves – all the players in the squad could be starters.”
While facing competition at club level, the same can be said for Ramirez on the international stage.
“My country is going through a generational shift. There are so many good players. If I do well with Samp, I’ll try and get back into the fold,” he added.
