Poland close in on Russia with 6-1 win over Armenia: Bereszynski and Linetty celebrate
The 2018 World Cup in Russia is closer than ever for Bartosz Bereszynski, Karol Linetty and the rest of the Polish national team. Adam Nawalka’s side beat Armenia 6-1 to take a big step towards next summer’s showpiece event.
Poland hit three goals in each half in Yerevan. Grisicki opened the scoring on two minutes, before a Lewandowski brace. Hambardzumyan then cut the deficit five minutes shy of the break.
Strikes from Blaszczykowski and Lewandowski either side of the hour mark made sure of the points before Wolski added a late sixth. Poland stay top of Group E on 22 points ahead of their last qualifier on Sunday against Montenegro in Warsaw.
The Blucerchiati pair put in a good performance. Bereszynski played the full 90 minutes at left-back, while Linetty was given a breather on the hour mark, as he was replaced by Maczynski.
