Giampaolo calls on Samp to show pride against Chievo

With last week’s 7-3 defeat against Lazio still fresh in his mind, Marco Giampaolo tried his best to look ahead to the next game, a home match for Sampdoria against ChievoVerona.

“We go into this game with an objective that is two-fold,” the boss said in the pre-match news conference.

“Firstly, we need to dust ourselves down after that defeat we suffered on Sunday, then we have to try and consolidate our position in the top half of the table, where we’ve deservedly been for most of the season.”

The Doria coach was clear in demanding a response from his players: “During the week the team trained in a responsible way, as they’ve always done. I take the blame for the defeat in Rome, but I’m expecting a show of character from the players. When I say this, I mean in terms of performance rather than result. The players know it’s their duty to show pride in their response.”
