Football Data, the inside track on Sampdoria v Chievo

Ahead of Sunday’s meeting with Chievo, we bring you a selection of pre-match facts and figures courtesy of Italy’s leading football statistics agency Football Data.

Samp risk equalling worst run of 2016/17

Sampdoria are winless in five matches, recording two draws and three defeats in that time. The Blucerchiati’s last victory dates back to 3 April, a 2-1 success against Inter at San Siro. Failure to beat Chievo on Sunday would see Samp equal their longest run without three points this season: they’ve had two six-game winless streaks this term, between Weeks 3 and 8 (D2, L4) then Weeks 16 and 21 (D2, L4).

Samp’s super subs

Marco Giampaolo’s side – joint with Roma and Sassuolo – have scored the most goals through substitutes in 2016/17. After 35 Serie A fixtures, the Blucerchiati have found the net 10 times through players coming off the bench: six by Patrik Schick, three by Bruno Fernandes and one by Ricky Alvarez.

Few names on the score sheet

Sampdoria have had the fewest goal scorers of any Serie A side this season. All 45 goals have been scored by just eight players: Alvarez, Barreto, Bruno Fernandes, Linetty, Muriel, Praet, Quagliarella and Schick.

Praet’s birthday

Dennis Praet celebrates his 23rd birthday on the same day Samp play Chievo. The Belgian midfielder was born in Leuven on 14 May 1994.

Samp and Chievo shipping goals for seven games

Both Sampdoria and Chievo have gone seven matches without keeping a clean sheet, conceding 16 and 17 goals respectively in that time. The Blucerchiati’s last clean sheet was in the 1-0 win against Genoa on 11 March; the Gialloblu’s in a 4-0 victory over Empoli on 12 March.

Sorrentino set for 200

Stefano Sorrentino could play his 200th competitive match for Chievo this weekend. He has featured in 195 Serie A games and four in the Coppa Italia since making his debut in Chievo 1-1 Torino on 24 September 2008.

Giampaolo eyes first win over Maran

Marco Giampaolo will be looking to beat Rolando Maran at the fourth time of asking on Sunday. In their three previous meetings the pair have drawn once and Maran won the other two. Both sides scored on all three occasions (three goals for Giampaolo’s teams, six for Maran’s).

One win in 11 against Chievo

The current Samp boss has beaten Chievo just once in 11 encounters, drawing five and losing five. His sides have drawn three and lost three at home.
