Giampaolo: “We risk throwing away months of hard work”
Marco Giampaolo did little to hide his disappointment with his Sampdoria side after they were beaten 2-1 by Crotone at Marassi on Sunday afternoon.
“It came down to motivation, but that’s no excuse,” began the Doria coach, speaking after the full-time whistle. “Evidently I wasn’t able to make the team understand the importance of this tricky match. I take responsibility. Crotone were much more switched on mentally, as we all saw.”
Though there were a few positives to take from the game, Giampaolo insisted his side would learn from a frustrating day at Marassi.
“We created a lot of chances in the first half and could have made it 2-0, and there was an offside in their equaliser,” said Giampaolo. “In any case, it was their mental resources that made the difference. This will be a lesson for us because it should not have happened. If we play like that we risk throwing away months of hard work and that’s not on. It could have been different had we shown more competitive edge. We’re creating question marks around us.”
