Bruno Fernandes: “I want to do even better next year”

Bruno Fernandes insisted he would not be resting on his laurels after his stunning opener against Fiorentina on Sunday confirmed this as his best Serie A season yet in front of goal.

“I’m delighted to have matched my Serie A goals record,” said the Portuguese schemer after full time. “I saw the ball coming and hit it first time – it shot off nicely.

“Both sides play nice football and create chances. We’re a little disappointed to have drawn, but we’re pleased with the performance.”

The Portuguese shrugged off suggestions he might have been unhappy to come off midway through the second half.

“All players want to play 90 minutes, but the coach makes the decisions and they must be respected. Ricky is a very important player for us and the two of us get on really well. He deserved his goal because he works very hard. I’d like to play together!”

Fernandes went on to address his future.

“I’m happy here at Samp,” he insisted. “This season has been a positive one for me and the whole team. I’d like to keep improving. Next year I want to start again with the same level of enthusiasm.”
