Giampaolo: “12 points from San Siro and two derbies – that may not happen again”
Marco Giampaolo understandably allowed himself to wallow in Samp’s moment of glory after they left San Siro with another three points on Monday night.
“That’s six points we’ve taken from this stadium and we won both derbies this season – that may never happen again,” he grinned.
It’s certainly been a positive spell for the Blucerchiati, who have lost just one of their last eight games and have now taken 21 points from a possible 30.
“The lads have been excellent and they’re getting better by the week,” Giampaolo noted.
“We came here tonight and dug in when we had to, playing with the right intensity against a side who have some fabulous individual players.
“[Fabio] Quagliarella is incredible. We don’t speak much but we understand each other perfectly. He always works and trains really hard – he’s as reliable as they come.”
Giampaolo also confirmed that he’s about to put pen to paper on a new contract.
“It’s all been done and it’s recognition not only for my own work but also what the players have done because it’s the players who make a coach better.
“I’d like to say a word for all the people who work alongside me – the people that no one sees.
“We’ve got some fantastic chemistry going on here: as a coach you live to see your ideas being put into practice and that’s exactly what’s happening at Sampdoria.”
