Quagliarella: “We weren’t at our best but we hung in there”

Fabio Quagliarella praised his team-mates for their persistence as they snatched a late 1-1 draw at Palermo on Sunday.

The 90th-minute equaliser was Quagliarella’s second goal in as many games, but the Italian admitted Samp had been off colour in Sicily.

“It was important to get a goal and secure a point at a tough ground,” said Quagliarella after the game. “It wasn’t our best performance, but we did well to hang in there and deserved to get the equaliser late on.”

Quagliarella spurned a great chance to give Samp an early lead in the first half, but couldn’t capitalise with Posavec helpless.

“I went with my left for that first chance but got the contact all wrong,” he explained. “Thankfully I was able to make amends at the death to make it 1-1.”
