Football Data: Facts and figures ahead of Sampdoria v Roma

With not long to go until Luciano Spalletti’s Roma side visit the Stadio Luigi Ferraris, now is the perfect time for you to swot up on the clash with our compilation of key stats.

Fourteen points from destiny. With 21 rounds of matches played, Samp are 14 points off sixth place – the last European spot – and 14 off the relegation zone.

Draw specialists. Sampdoria are one of six Serie A sides to have drawn six of their 21 games this season. The others are Genoa, Fiorentina, Empoli, Pescara and Torino.

No Samp scorer in 450 minutes. No Sampdoria player has found the net in 450 minutes, since Patrik Schick found the net in the 90th minute of Samp’s 2-1 defeat by Chievo. Since then, Doria have played out two 0-0 draws against Udinese and Empoli, the 2-1 defeat at Napoli (Hysaj own goal), the 4-0 loss to Roma in the Coppa Italia and last week’s 1-0 defeat by Atalanta.

Goalscoring duties. Only five Sampdoria players have found the back of the net after 21 rounds of Serie A 2016/17, making them the side with fewest different scorers in the league. Barreto, Bruno Fernandes, Muriel, Quagliarella and Schick have been on target thus far.

Super subs. Sampdoria and Roma are – together with Napoli – the sides with most goals (6) scored by players coming off the bench. Schick and Bruno Fernandes have each weighed in with three for Doria, while the Giallorossi’s super subs are Perotti (3), Totti (2) and Dzeko (1).

Spine. Roma have used fewer players (20) than any other side after 21 rounds of Serie A. They have also made the fewest subs (56 out of a possible 63).

Spot-kick specialists. Roma have won 10 penalties in 21 Serie A games this season, far more than any other team.

Fair play. Roma haven’t had a single player sent off this season – neither have Juventus or Udinese.

Roman wall. The Giallorossi haven’t conceded a goal in 413 minutes’ play, since De Guzman scored in the 37th minute of Roma’s 3-1 defeat of Chievo back on 22 December. Roma then beat Genoa and Udinese 1-0, Sampdoria 4-0 in the cup and Cagliari 1-0 in the league. On the road, the Roma defence hasn’t been breached in 256 minutes – since the 14th minute of their 1-0 loss to Juventus on 17 December. They’ve kept clean sheets in each of their two games – 1-0 wins over Genoa and Udinese – since.
