Barreto: “You’re seeing really Giampaolo’s Sampdoria side now”
Edgar Barreto handed the credit for Sampdoria’s recent form to Marco Giampaolo after Doria sunk Torino with a 2-0 win at Marassi on Sunday afternoon.
“You can see the coach’s hand in what we’re doing – our style is very distinctive. This is Giampaolo’s Sampdoria,” said the Paraguayan, who notched his second goal of the season against the Granata.
“It was a forward’s turn,” added Barreto, describing his opener. “I did well to make sure I was ready to stick it in. I’ve scored two goals this season now and I’m having a lot more chances. I think I’ve been a bit unlucky with hitting the woodwork, having goals chalked off and coming up against goalkeepers.”
Barreto acknowledged that he was brimming with confidence following an excellent start to the season.
“I feel the support of everyone – the coach, the staff and all the dressing room. It’s absolutely vital for any player,” said the midfielder.
Barreto also praised the team’s hard work in thwarting the second-highest scoring team in Serie A.
“We worked hard on it and did well to keep it tight on the flanks, where they have top quality.”
