Giampaolo wants ‘best performance of the season’ against Fiorentina
Sampdoria must outdo themselves and produce their “best performance of the season” if they want to come away with a result when they travel to Fiorentina on Sunday, according to Marco Giampaolo.
You might think the Blucerchiati have done the hard part after claiming six points from three massive games in a week against Genoa, Juventus and Inter, but the coach knows Samp aren’t out of the woods yet with a tricky game away to Paulo Sousa’s side before the international break.
“Fiorentina are a top-quality side, probably the best passing team in Serie A along with Napoli.
“They play the ball short and to feet. They have players who can beat their man, like Bernardeschi, Borja Valero and Ilicic, and others who are good at getting in behind like Tello and Kalinic.
“They have lots and lots of options and it will be very draining for us physically.
“But we’ve been working hard and we’ll keep doing so because we want to be a match for any team.”
Giampaolo also discussed the significance of Sunday’s victory over Inter, as well as the philosophy he expects his players to buy into.
“It can help us grow, boost our self-confidence and increase our belief in what we’re doing.
“We need to play as a team at all times. Individual players can enhance the side but it gets you nowhere unless it’s founded on values You need the right attitude as a team.”
