Bruno Fernandes: “Derby changed everything, now we want to climb the table”

Fabio Quagliarella might have bagged the headlines with his winner over Inter on Sunday, but Bruno Fernandes was just as important in Sampdoria’s stunning 1-0 win over the Nerazzurri at Marassi.

“That’s how we need to play,” admitted the Portuguese schemer after the game. “If we maintain that standard then we’ll pick up points and grow in confidence. We put everything we believe in into practice and we got a great win in return.”

Bruno Fernandes has become an increasingly integral part of Marco Giampaolo’s thinking in recent weeks, with the midfielder happy to be giving the coach a decision to make.

“I feel good – I train hard every day to give the boss a headache. My understanding with the two strikers, Muriel and Quagliarella, is fantastic,” explained Bruno Fernandes.

The Portuguese went on to pinpoint the derby win over Genoa as the turning point in Samp’s season.

“Our attitude has changed since the derby and we proved that again today,” revealed Bruno Fernandes. “We caused Juve a few problems when we got it back to 2-1, but then they scored the third goal and put the game to bed – they’re a fantastic team, though.

“This is a deserved win. I remember Inter having lots of crosses, but not creating many chances.”
