Muriel ready for big season: “I want to get better. There’s a great understanding with Quagliarella”

Luis Muriel is determined to continue his pre-season form when Serie A 2016/17 gets underway in just under a week’s time.

“I’m delighted to have scored a brace and helped the team,” the Colombian told Samp TV after Sunday’s win over Bassano. “I have to bounce back this season, though I don’t want to put too much pressure on myself at the start of the year.”

Muriel believes that new coach Marco Giampaolo has made a real impact since joining the club.

“The boss gave us an idea of what he wanted straight away and the group was all ears. When you have someone that does things well, it’s much easier. In the past I’ve made some mistakes, but I don’t want to repeat that. I want to improve and be more consistent in my performances,” explained the striker.

Muriel also spoke glowingly about strike partner Fabio Quagliarella: “I’ve been working with him since last year now and we have a great understanding.”
