UC Sampdoria: official statement, 30 November 2018

UC Sampdoria wishes to make some clarifications in the wake of distorted media reports which fail to correctly value the club and its activities and indeed seriously damage our image. The club would also like to reiterate its faith in the work of the judicial authorities and is confident that it can clarify any doubts.

• After the acquisition in June 2014, the club – during the presidency of Massimo Ferrero – has generated profits of €3,232,818 (2016 financial year) and €9,286,928 (2017 financial year). In both cases, the decision was taken not to distribute the profits among shareholders, in order to increase the capital of the club;
• As regards the current financial year (2018), the club will for the third consecutive year finish with a profit. This fact shows that the club is moving in a positive direction, in contrast with the recent past. For instance, in the five financial years before the current owners took over, the club had accumulated losses of over €100 million.
• Between 30 December 2014 and 30 September 2018, the club made infrastructural investment equal to €16.5 million, primarily with regards to improvement work to the training ground in Bogliasco. The club built modern facilities for the first team and youth academy and provided the academy with a residence, in a first for the club. A further €10 million investment is planned.
• The asset value of the players owned by the club increased from €36.7 million on 31 December 2014 to €78.5 million on 30 September 2018, confirming the fact that over the past few years the value of the club’s assets has increased not decreased. The market value of the players is significantly higher than this and – in the last four financial years – the club has invested €165 million on players.
