Dugout, Cult Heroes: Vialli earns first Italy cap
There would be no shortage of reasons for including Gianluca Vialli on Dugout‘s list of Cult Heroes but we only need one and on this day, 16 November, 33 years ago a fresh-faced, curly-haired, soon-to-become-Sampdoria-legend made his debut for the senior Italy side.
Enzo Bearzot called him up for the then-reigning world champions in 1985 and Luca earned the first of many Italy caps – 56 during his time at Sampdoria, still a club record – in a friendly match against Poland, which finished 1-0 to the Poles.
To mark this anniversary, we have this collection of some of the best Vialli moments from his time with Sampdoria.
