Palombo: “Bad start to the season. We must learn from this and do better next year”

Angelo Palombo came out to eat humble pie in front of the cameras after an afternoon when everything went wrong.

Having made his return to the pitch as captain, the 34-year-old put on a brave face as he analysed the difficulties Doria experienced today and throughout the season.

“We worked really hard during the week but then we just switched off out there,” the midfielder admitted.

“This year got off to a bad start but there were times when we rallied well as a group and managed to dig out results.”

What can you say to the fans on a day like this? “Sorry and thank you, because they never stopped singing.”

The one bright note is that Sampdoria’s Serie A status is now assured for another season after results elsewhere went their way.

“We’ll take that but we’ll also take our responsibility for today and our last few games,” Palombo continued.

“All we can do now is look ahead to next season and all of us aim to do better, learning from the mistakes we made this time.”
