De Silvestri to Samp TV: “My goal or not, the main thing is it went in”
The verdict came late last night from Lega Serie A’s equivalent of the Dubious Goals Committee: it was actually Lorenzo De Silvestri not Modibo Diakite who got the final touch that ensured Sampdoria took a huge step towards safety.
In truth, however, De Silvestri scoring his former employers meant less than the huge three points they delivered.
“The only thing that matters is the ball crossed the line,” said a cheerful De Silvestri to Samp TV. “It was a fundamental win that allows us to move permanently away from the sharp end of the table.
“Now we’ve got three big games coming up, including the Derby della Lanterna, so we have to continue playing as we’ve been doing recently. We’ve shown we’re a good side.”
