Montella: “No excuses, we must win it, with and for the fans”

Sampdoria v Frosinone is not your average game. It’s a crunch match, a six-pointer. Almost a play-off. And Vincenzo Montella’s Blucerchiati need to win it to move five points clear of their opponents and the relegation zone.

“We’ve worked in a very focused manner all week,” the Doria boss explained in his pre-match press conference. “This is a very important game but we mustn’t rush into it headlong. We have to maintain our concentration throughout the whole 90 minutes.

“There’s only one result open to us and that’s victory. The team deserve it, the president deserves it and the fans deserve it. No set of fans anywhere in Italy show as much love for their team as Sampdoria fans do.”

On his line-up: “Some of the lads like De Silvestri and Silvestre are available for selection again now, but I still have today and tomorrow to decide on my team.”
