Alvarez: “Keep playing like this and the points will come”

Ricky Alvarez is confident Sampdoria will soon experience an upturn in fortunes provided they keep playing the way they did against Roma.

The Argentine midfielder made an immediate impact after coming on for Edgar Barreto in the second half of Sunday’s match at the Olimpico, helping Samp to take the game to their opponents in what proved to be an ultimately futile attempt to find an equaliser.

While recognising that the result is always the first thing everyone looks at, the 27-year-old believes Doria should take heart from an encouraging display against Luciano Spalletti’s side.

“The result is what matters most and we didn’t pick up any points,” Alvarez acknowledged. “But looking beyond that I think we played well against a great team who are up there in the mix for the top spots.

“We have to build on that now and move forward. If we keep playing like this, we’ll soon start picking up points.”
