Montella’s derby delight: “70 minutes of great football. Victory feels good”

He may have described it as little more than a normal game beforehand but Vincenzo Montella couldn’t not be happy after a thrilling derby victory.

“It’s a great feeling to win this game,” he told Samp TV after the final whistle. “We had to hold on a bit towards the end but for the most part we were perfect: we were consistent, we got our tactics spot on and we took our chances.

“The only thing we have to remember is that you can never afford to let your concentration slip. We did that after scoring our third and allowed Genoa to come into it more.”

Next up is a match against reigning champions Juventus. “In some ways it’s better that way because there’s no chance of us getting distracted or not being fully focused.”
