Montella on the derby: “Calmness needed to win against Genoa”
Vincenzo Montella believes keeping a cool head from the first minute to the last is more important than technical ability in the fast-approaching derby.
With just over 24 hours until the Derby della Lanterna gets under way, the Blucerchiati boss has called for his players to bring certain qualities to the fore.
“We have to show total concentration for 90 minutes,” began Montella in his pre-match press conference. “Aside from that, we need passion and a desire to win.”
As for Montella’s own history in this match, the Aeroplanino was in a reflective mood: “It’s feel like a lifetime since I played in this game, I’m not as passionate about it as I was before.
“Nevertheless, it’s all everybody can talk about in the city. This is an important contest, unlike all the rest.”
Recent form suggests Samp are beginning to pick up some form. “Excitement is building among the team, but now we need consistency. However, this doesn’t mean we’ll see the same starting XI that began against Palermo.
“Antonio Cassano is playing well and can offer us a lot. Ricky Alvarez is a quality player, he knows how to beat his man and he’s got great technique.”
