Montella sees progress: “Pity we’re out but we’re improving”

It’s hard to be happy about going out of a cup competition but Sampdoria are making visible progress. That’s the view of many, including Vincenzo Montella: “We played excellently in the first half, with belief, as a unit and with greater attacking verve. Tonight’’s match really meant a lot to us and we gave everything. We have a number of games in a short period of time but we wanted to compete, even if that meant expending a lot of energy. I don’t believe the team deserved to lose.”
