Ton-up Eder: “Passed an important milestone in tough match”

Sampdoria star striker Eder Citadin Martins notched his 100th goal in Italian football against his former club Empoli last night.

Broken down, the Brazil-born Italy striker scored 20 for Frosinone, 27 for Empoli, eight across spells with Brescia and Cesena, and finally 45 glorious finishes for the Blucerchiati.

A remarkable achievement that doesn’t take into account all the chances he has created, assists he has delivered and fouls he has earned.

Samp’s No. 1 goalscorer began his interview with Samp TV with a beaming smile on his face: “I’m happy to have reached this target, even if I’m not solely obsessed by goals as a player. I’ve hit triple figures since starting out for Frosinone back in 2008/09 and that’s not easy to do in Italy.”

Eder then moved on to analyse yesterday’s game as a whole: “It’s a shame my goal wasn’t able to hand us victory but Empoli are a fantastic side. Marco Giampaolo has continued where previous coach Maurizio Sarri left off and it’s working well, they created problems for us.

“I’m not too fussed about being top goalscorer, I’m more concerned about Sampdoria’s position in the league table. Nevertheless, the knowledge that I’ve scored as many as Gonzalo Higuain is satisfying.”
